Curve

Once you have selected the curve option, you will be able to draw curves until you dismiss the cursor from drawing back to normal canvas cursor operation or select another draw option.

The curve will be drawn with the Line Type, Line Width, Arrow Style and color selections that are active in the Attributes Toolbar. These can be changed before drawing the curve or after. For more information on the appearance, see the chapter "Format Options".

The curve icon allows you to draw "bezier" curves given control points. The curve does not necessarily hit each control point but uses the point to determine a continuous slope for a smooth curve.

How to

  1. Click on Draw in the Main Menu with the left-most mouse button.
  2. Click on Curve with the left-most mouse button.
  3. Move the cursor onto the canvas. The cursor will look like a pencil.
  4. Click on the left-most mouse button once to start the curve.
  5. To lay down a control point, move the cursor to the location and click the left-most mouse button. You will see the curve starting to take shape. The end of the curve will follow the mouse's movements until the drawing is terminated.
  6. To stop drawing the curve, click the middle mouse button. If no control points have been laid down on the canvas, the "curve" will result in a straight line.
  7. (Optional) To draw another curve or curved line, go to step 4.

Example

The bezier curve does not get regenerated when moving the handles to new locations. If the curve is not the desired shape then it will have to be redrawn rather than edited.
