The Scrolling (Virtual) Drawing Canvas

The canvas in PlotShop has scrolling features which allows the user to draw, edit, zoom, and place objects and imported files anywhere within a virtual drawing region. The controls for the virtual drawing canvas can be found in the lower right hand corner of the PlotShop GUI.

Using this concept, a canvas dimension may be specified by the user. The canvas dimension is the overall dimension of the working area. The physical size of the exported CGM file is determined by the area taken up on the canvas, not the canvas dimension.

The canvas dimension can be changed at any given time while working in PlotShop

The viewport is the "working" area you wish to view on the canvas. The viewport can be resized with the zoom features. The scroll bars and pan feature allow the user to move the viewport when necessary.

Any objects placed outside the drawing canvas will not be written to the exported CGM file. These objects will also be "lost" in the background until the canvas size is enlarged.
