CGM Standard celebrates 20th Anniversary. In 1987
the CGM standard was originally published by ISO as ISO 8632:1987.
Don Larson, an early proponent of the CGM standard, saw
how CGM could solve the plotting problems encountered by the petroleum exploration
industry in the 1980s. Larson created the CGM+ extension for plotting seismic
data, and through his efforts and the SEG Graphics Standards Subcommittee,
the CGM Standard was adopted as the standard for the oil and gas industry.
This work eventually lead to the adoption of CGM PIP (Petroleum Industry Profile.)

Larson exhibits at NAPE Expo in Houston, Texas to
record attendance.
Larson's new family of products, VizEx Reader, VizEx Pro,
and VizEX GeoTech help simplify graphics workflow for viewing, exchanging,
and printing digital images. More product evaluations were requested by NAPE
attendees than at any previous shows! CGM Studio is a montaging tool for presenting
prospect data in CGM, EMF, TIFF, JPEG, or DWG formats, and was also frequently
evaluated by NAPE attendees, a marketplace for the buying, selling and trading
of oil and gas prospects.

Larson visits BAE Systems in Glasgow.
BAE Systems in Glasgow has been using the Larson
Auto Hot Spotter to automatically
convert 100,000 CAD drawings in CGM format to WebCGM files. This process
eliminates the need to manually add graphical hot spots with CAD or
graphical editing software. BAE Systems realizes enormous cost savings
and the ability to quickly publish CAD drawings to the Web using the
Auto Hot Spotter from Larson.

LARSON PREVIEWS AUTO HOT SPOTTER.
Larson Software used the opportunity of the recent
S1000D Users Conference in Clearwater, Florida to announce the development
of a solution to aid in the conversion of legacy graphics into WebCGM
compliant graphics complete with hyperlinked hot spots. The
Auto Hot Spotter is a two-part application. The Extract tool uses
a regular expression based syntax to "extract" all real text
from your files, creating a formatted list of all text strings with
the coordinates of their extents. The Append tool then allows you to
take that information and "append" hotspots to the CGM image
over the areas you specify, with the appropriate URL targets. The Append
function can also be coupled with a database application, for example,
which could look up a part number and then add screen tip text or actual
URL link.
