Drawing Exchange for the Air Transport Industry

The civil aviation industry is faced with a unique challenge that few other manufacturing sectors face. Maintaining products to the highest standards for long periods of time. It is not unusual for an aircraft to remain in service for 25 years or more.

During this time, technology changes at a rapid rate and new ways of working emerge. Vital product information needed to maintain the aircraft becomes locked into outdated systems and proprietary formats.

To facilitate the exchange of technical illustrations in a digital format, the Air Transport Association adopted the "Computer Graphics Metafile" format, an open international standard designed to enable seamless transfer of drawings and associated data from Manufacturers to their Customers.
