CGM Standard celebrates 20th Anniversary. In 1987 the CGM standard was originally published by ISO as ISO 8632:1987.
Don Larson, an early proponent of the CGM standard, saw how CGM could solve the plotting problems encountered by the petroleum exploration industry in the 1980s. Larson created the CGM+ extension for plotting seismic data, and through his efforts and the SEG Graphics Standards Subcommittee, the CGM Standard was adopted as the standard for the oil and gas industry. This work eventually lead to the adoption of CGM PIP (Petroleum Industry Profile.)
